White is a material
Paper is not empty. It is the loudest colour on a page if you let grey fills eat it.
I used to solve hierarchy with another shade. It always looked like a UI kit. Birch bark does not have a #6B7280. It has black scars on white, and tone from density.
When this site needs grey, it prints it. Dots, grain, tighter contours. That is slower to build and harder to fake, which is the point.
No fill, only ink
A grey box is a decision you did not want to make. Dither is slower and it shows. That is the point of printing a map instead of decorating a dashboard.
